Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP)

In today’s uncertain climate, safeguarding the people and spaces that serve our communities is more critical than ever. The Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) is a federally funded, high-impact grant administered by FEMA in partnership with state agencies—designed to help nonprofit organizations that are at elevated risk of terrorist or hate-motivated attacks protect their facilities, staff, and visitors.

This grant provides essential funding to strengthen your organization’s physical security infrastructure, support emergency preparedness training, and develop critical response protocols—empowering you to operate with confidence, even in times of heightened risk.

What NSGP Can Fund:

Eligible organizations can receive up to $200,000 per location, and those with multiple high-risk sites may apply for funding at more than one location. Successful applications are those that clearly demonstrate a credible threat, documented vulnerability, and an actionable security investment strategy.

Who Should Apply:

This grant is especially critical for faith-based institutions, cultural centers, community advocacy groups, educational nonprofits, and social service organizations—particularly those that serve historically targeted populations or have experienced threats or incidents in the past.

Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes (SCAHC)

As hate crimes and bias-motivated threats continue to rise across the country, New York State has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its most vulnerable populations through the Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes (SCAHC) grant program. This targeted initiative provides critical capital funding to help at-risk organizations strengthen their physical security and ensure their facilities remain safe, welcoming, and resilient places for all.

Administered through the New York State Division of Ciminal Justice (DCJS), the SCAHC grant is specifically designed for nonprofit organizations and faith-based institutions that face an increased risk of hate-fueled attacks based on religion, ethnicity, identity, or ideology.

Funding Highlights:
SCAHC supports a broad range of capital improvements aimed at deterring, detecting, and responding to bias-related threats, including:

Organizations can apply for multiple sites, with funding typically ranging from $50,000 to $200,000 per location, depending on project scope and justification.

Nonpublic School Security Reimbursement Program

The Nonpublic School Security Reimbursement Program is a vital public safety initiative from the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) that provides funded security guard services to eligible nonpublic schools across New York City. Designed to enhance safety and peace of mind for students, staff, and families, the program ensures that schools have access to professional, trained guards—at no cost to the school.

Nonpublic schools with 150 or more enrolled students may qualify to receive City-funded security guards under this program. The initiative operates on a three-year funding cycle, and participation requires schools to complete a prequalification application in the NYC Passport system before submitting a full application through the City’s contracting portal.

Key Program Features:

The DCAS Security Guard Program follows a structured multi-year cycle. Schools seeking to join or renew must meet all application deadlines and compliance requirements.
